Alex Polizzi isn’t surprised that Michelle and her husband Mimmo’s café, located by a stable yard in a tiny Somerset village, isn’t making a profit. The Italian-inspired menu is great (although, like so many failing businesses, offers too much choice), but there’s very little footfall at the location and the exhausted couple are working long days for the paltry salary of £2.26 per hour each.This predicament calls for a dramatic solution so, instead of investing in the café, Alex nervously suggests they try selling their signature dish — porchetta — from a street food truck at local events held at the rugby ground or the races. It’s a massive gamble she hopes will pay off.
