The autopsy excludes that it was Filip who killed Brezigar, who is, therefore, exonerated. The boy reconciles with Vanessa, but their tranquility does not last long: Vanessa must testify at the trial about the death of Cagliostro. The girl is in great difficulty: pressed by Rambelli's lawyer, she confesses to seeing Cagliostro, talking to him and to the dead, thus losing all credibility as a witness. Mocked by acquaintances and friends, Vanessa distances herself from everyone, even from Filip, to whom it is now clear that his girlfriend has a deep feeling for Cagliostro. At the newspaper, the publisher Matteo Silvestrin asks Lucia Bugatti, Paoletta's new companion, to focus attention on Anna and Piras "diabolical lovers", architects of the Cagliostro crime. The journalist, suspicious of the request, accepts in spite of herself.
