Strange World (2016) - Season 1 Episode 2 -

Investigative Journalist Alex Hannaford heads to the prairies of central Canada to investigate the disturbing phenomenon known as Alien Sounds; mysterious, thunderous acoustics coming from the sky. Intrigued by a Saskatoon city resident’s account of a loud howling noise that woke him from sleep one freezing winter’s night in January 2013, Alex starts his enquiries in the sparsely populated state of Saskatchewan. But he’s perplexed to find that none of the man’s neighbours reported hearing the terrifying acoustics. Determined to solve the mystery, Alex combs the internet and discovers a cluster of reports, all dating from one night in January 2012. They originate from the city of North Battleford, 130 km to the north-west, where Alex tracks down and interviews four residents, all of whom claim to have heard the phenomenon that winter’s night But what is the scientific explanation for these extraordinary incidents? Could the sounds have been caused by interstate freight trains or snow-ploughs? Were they generated by supersonic aircraft or shallow earthquakes? In his quest to find a scientific explanation, Alex meets with a Seismologist; a Professor of Physics and a Leading Acoustic Science Expert and uncovers an intriguing explanation for the Alien Sounds mystery.
