Strange World (2016) - Season 1 Episode 3 -

Journalist Alex Hannaford heads to the US to investigate a mass creature death. On New Year’s Eve 2010, residents of the Arkansas town of Beebe looked on in horror as the bodies of thousands of blackbirds rained down from the sky. While townsfolk joked nervously about the end of the world, officials were left scratching their heads. Armed with a list of eyewitnesses and a host of possible theories obtained from a local TV Reporter, Alex heads for the Kill Zone; a square mile area surrounding one suburban road. His mission: to find a scientific explanation for Beebe’s Bird Apocalypse. Interviewing the neighbourhood residents, Alex concludes that the birds may have been culled. But in pursuing this theory, he discovers that the cause of death was in fact blunt force trauma. The birds had abandoned their roost, taken to the skies and flown headlong into objects with such force that it killed them. But what drove them to do this? Did the birds commit suicide? Could some environmental change have been at play? Beebe’s Police Chief is convinced that fireworks caused the carnage, whilst another resident blames freak weather. Alex has his own intriguing theory.
