Strange World (2016) - Season 1 Episode 6 -
Season 1, Episode 6 - Episode 6
Investigative Journalist Alex Hannaford heads to America to explore one of our planet's strangest phenomena: reports from South Western Missouri of a mysterious ball of light floating in the night sky above a remote country road. Alex’s mission: to find a scientific explanation for these so called Spook Lights.
A Paranormal Investigator, who has spent the last thirty years exploring the eerie phenomenon, kick-starts the investigation. She provides him with a list of leads and photographic evidence of the mysterious lights. Alex first though is that the eyewitnesses have simply misinterpreted car headlights, but a meeting with an eyewitness, who tells him that the phenomenon is centuries old, casts doubt on this theory. When he then finds accounts from the 1900s, predating the mass production of the car, this first line of investigation is discounted.
In search of new leads, Alex uncovers other instances of unexplained lights where a rational scientific explanation has been found. Could the Spook Lights be will o’ the wisps, the centuries’ old source of ghost stories, which are simply igniting swamp gases. Or perhaps, Earth Lights; seen in the skies before and during earthquakes. Or ball lightning?
Enlisting the help of experts, Alex disproves each theory in turn. But then he happens on the work of a Physicist who suggests a very plausible answer; one which involves a combination of unique atmospheric conditions and the particular positioning of Spook Light Road. Problem is, his theory has never been put to the test .... until now.
