Strange World (2016) - Season 1 Episode 7 -
Season 1, Episode 7 - Episode 7
Investigative journalist Alex Hannaford heads ‘Down Under’ to uncover the truth behind reports of sightings of the continent’s biggest marsupial carnivore; an elusive wolf-like creature called the Thylacine or Tasmanian Tiger. Only problem is it’s been extinct since 1936. Alex tracks down eyewitnesses who claim to have seen it and enlists the help of experts to explore the extraordinary theories behind its reappearance. His mission; to find proof that this extraordinary creature is back from the dead.
Alex kicks off his investigation in the Museum of Melbourne, getting up-close with a rare preserved Thylacine specimen. Having built up a solid profile of this mysterious beast he then hits the internet in search of leads and soon comes across a spate of news reports from Melbourne and beyond, detailing gruesome attacks on kangaroos and naming the Thylacine as the culprit.
Pursuing a cluster of 20 headless kangaroo corpses, Alex travels 250 km south to the small coastal town of Loch Sport to interview local residents who claim to have sighted the mysterious beast. Each gives him a convincing account of having seeing a creature that matches the specimen he studied in Museum of Melbourne. One is convinced that Thylacine are living in the National Park and scrubland which surround Loch Sport, using the township as a corridor to travel between the two territories. But with no hard proof, this theory is far from concrete.
Alex’s investigation is stalling but there’s an unexpected twist when he stumbles across a startling piece of research.
